
As
with many cultures, in the pre-television era, there
was a need to wind down after a hard days work. Besides
storytelling (which is also a popular Basque pastime),
the Basques would play cards to pass time on those
long winter evenings.
Mus is probably
the most common of the card games played by the Basques.
Played in every province, the game has been described
as similar to poker in that there is much bluffing
involved but that it is similar to bridge in that partners
play together and the strategies can be similar. Much
like Pilota,
Mus has followed the
Basques to wherever they have settled and it is a common
occurrence to see the game being played wherever four
Basques may convene.
