Mr.
Igoa is a descendant of French-Basque immigrants. He perfected his craft
while attending college in France. He studied the
great European Masters:
Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Rembrandt, deVinci just to name a few.
He is also influenced by Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, Norman Rockwell
among others and he is inspired by American Plein Air and Western painters
-
Millard Sheets, Remington, Russell and Frank Tenney Johnson.
One of the many painting techniques that Mr. Igoa employs is called
underpainting and glazes. This technique
starts with laying down a layer of pigment beneath your finished painting.
In doing so the
artist allows the pigment to surface in random but controlled areas.
It gives the painting a spark, helping to accentuate the the overlaying colors.
Often
the choice
of underpaint color is one complimentary (opposite) to the colors on
the surface.
Although he has a somewhat
impressionistic
style,
he has an uncanny ability to accurately
draw the human figure and he easily captures human likenesses.
